Banquet – 2013 edition
[slideshow_deploy id=’928′]
A first edition of the Banquet took place on Friday 27th September 2013 to celebrate the fortieth anniversary of the museum, with the help of the artists Fabien Vallos and Jérémie Gaulin. For an evening, 350 people – among which many artists, art critics, curators and collectors that contributed to the museum’s History – were brought together to share a unique moment of conviviality around a real Banquet à la française imagined by the artists.
Entitled “Celebration”, this Banquet gave way to a festive atmosphere, discussions and encounters. We received the support of the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux, who was also celebrating its fortieth anniversary and generously offered all the wine.
The price of the meal is 300 euros per person and is paid as a donation, entitling you to a fiscal deduction of 60% for companies (therefore a real cost of 120 euros) and 66% for individuals (therefore a real cost of 102 euros). Each paying meal allowed us to invite an artist, an art critic or an artistic personality that was important to the CAPC’s history.
This donation allows the entrepreneurs of Bordeaux to contribute to the influence of their city and region, by enriching the CAPC’s artwork collection and offering to the guests a networking venue.

Purchase of two works by Michael Krebber
Following the success of the charity Banquet organised at the end of September 2013, the Friends of the CAPC purchased two works by the German artist Michael Krebber, to donate to the CAPC’s collection. The benefits of the event largely contributed to this acquisition.
Michael Krebber is considered today to be one of the most influential personnalities of the contemporary international artistic scene. He had a personal exhibition in the nave of the CAPC contemporary art museum, from November 2012 to February 2013.
These two artworks donated by the Friends of the CAPC allow the museum’s collection to be considerable enriched with the work of an artist that is new to French public collections.

Exhibitions
2014 // Support of Dan Finsel’s and Carter Mull’s exhibition
Carter Mull puts the visitors face to a dense installation combining paintings, luminous sculptures hanging from the ceiling, a video, a mural drawing 7 metres long and hundreds of pages laid on the floor. Strong couleurs, logos, typefaces and screen shots of online shops for hipsters make up the meticulous pictural matter of the artist, through which he questions the status and the production of consumer goods and art.

First personal exhibition in Europe for the American artist Dan Finsel (born in 1982, lives in Los Angeles), Becoming Her, for Him, for Her: Becoming Him, for Her, for She (Becoming Me, for Me, for Me.) lays the radical base for an intense visual and psychological universe that explores in a corrosive and emotional manner family mythologies and frenetic multiple personality troubles in today’s Los Angeles.

2013 // Support of the Markus Schinwald exhibition
The CAPC’s nave is plunged in darkness. A gigantic brass tubular structure straddles the space. Painted skies and retouched portraits hanging on wires are being as if launched into the void. The walls are covered with Brinjal. Tumblers play chess and children’s puppets bang the metal tips of their shoes on the floor. A spiral Eiffel stairway links the floor and the ceiling, 45 feet high. Large hangings hide the architecture, a double mirror projection of the film Orient spins in a loop and looks at itself from a huge triangular bench which cuts the nave in four. A false ceiling with holes in it lets through a purplish light, while a figure on a suspended diving board vibrates with the variations of light. Welcome inside Markus Schinwald’s mechanical theatre. A space made to measure for the CAPC’s nave, which gropes as much as it traps.
The Friends of the CAPC support this important exhibition.

Ticket Mécène
Unprecedented in France, the Ticket Mécène® operation launched by the CAPC contemporary art museum of Bordeaux is a campaign of mobilization for the enrichment of public collections. The CAPC’s visitors are invited to become benefactors of the collection, establishing a direct link between the citizen and the museum.
Unique in France, this system integrates the new ideas of “crowd funding” in the artistic sphere and adds to the usual process of acquisitions and enrichment of collections.
It allows the public at large to get directly involved in the life of a collection.
The CAPC proposes a special additional contribution of a minimum of 3€, with the entrance ticket to the museum.
With Ticket Mécène, the visitor leaves with a symbolic piece of the artwork and becomes the generous benefactor of the CAPC. The visual of the artwork is made up of a “magnet puzzle” poster. Each visitor-contributor is given a piece of the magnet, that is to say a “piece of the work” that he may choose.
Each donor is kept informed of the operation by email (overtaking of symbolic thresholds, finalisation of the campaign, rendez-vous). At the end of the campaign, all the donors, big and small, are invited to the presentation of the artwork at the museum, with a moment of conviviality, a conference, a presentation by the artist, a drink, etc.
In collaboration with the Friends of the CAPC who match every euro given by the public, the donation is multiplied by two.
This artwork, purchased from the Bordeaux gallery Cortex Athletico, supports the cultural actors of the territory.
